More than 1,000 jobs was offered to the people of Mindoro as the Department of Labor and Employment Region IV-B (MIMAROPA) held its region-wide Job and Livelihood Fair in commemoration with the National Labor Day Celebration at Divine Word College of Calapan Gymnasium, Calapan City on May 1, 2011. It was the first time in the province to have an on-line registration for the applicants.
For the 1521 applicants who eagerly applied to the 17 local employers and 12 overseas recruitment agencies who participated during the said event, 66 were hired on the spot by the local employers while 25 by the overseas recruitment agencies. Two hundred eight applicants are still waiting for further interview.
The said fair was highly supported by the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro through the Provincial-Public and Employment Service Office headed by Mr. Antonio M. Magnaye, Jr. and Technology and Livelihood Development Center headed by Mr. Avelino P. Tejada; the City Government of Calapan through the City-Public Employment Service Office headed by Mr. Marvin L. Panahon; and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - MIMAROPA through the TESDA Field Office of Oriental Mindoro led by Mr. Renato M. Pantaleon; and the Regional Coordinating Council.
Globe provided the internet connection for the on-line registration while the Divine Word College of Calapan through the School President Fr. Anthony Ibarra B. Fabella sponsored the venue.
Aside from the jobs being offered by the employers who participated during the activity, there were several demo trainings namely Trendy Balloon, Soap Making, Potholder and Doormat Making, Food Processing and Preservation given by the Technology and Livelihood Development Center of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro. Meanwhile, the TESDA Oriental Mindoro Field Office also conducted demo trainings for meat, vegetable, and food processing.
Representatives from the different agencies such as National Statistics Office-IV-B, Social Security System-Calapan Branch, Pag-Ibig Fund-Calapan Branch, PhilHealth IV-B and the Professional Regulation Commission-Region IV were also present in the said fair to provide pre-employment services to all the applicants.
The members of the DOLE-Regional Coordinating Council namely: National Conciliation and Mediation Board, National Labor Relations Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board also graced the event by giving legal advisories and wage clinic. The National Economic Development Authority Region IV-B Director, RD Oskar D. Balbastro also appeared in the opening program.
One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of nego-carts by the City Government of Calapan to five chosen beneficiaries during the opening program. The five beneficiaries were given each a nego-cart with bicycle and cash worth P 2,000.00 as their starting capital. Likewise, the DOLE IV-B presented the check worth P250,000.00 as the initial amount for their P750,000.00 counterpart for the negokart project of the Provincial-PESO of Oriental Mindoro. Hon. Humerlito A. Dolor, Vice Governor of Oriental Mindoro received the said check.
