Rustom F. Lozada, a 19 year old resident of Brgy. Cambunang, Bulalacao, Or. Mindoro, has qualified for Isabelo De Los Reyes Scholarship Grants (IDRSG), the fourth scholar for DOLE Oriental Mindoro under the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP).
Lozada, a learner of Alternative Learning System who passed the NFE Accreditation & Equivalency Test Calendar Year 2014 that is comparable to secondary level as posted by the Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS), is in his first year in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
As a WODP scholar, his tuition and miscellaneous fees will be directly paid by DOLE MIMAROPA to OMSC, while the P3,000.00 monthly allowance will be directly paid to him. There is also a provision of P2, 500.00/semester book allowance subject to reimbursement upon submission of Official Receipts to DOLE. He will enjoy these blessings for 4 years equivalent to 8 semesters of schooling. A Memorandum of Agreement to this effect has been signed by and between the President of Parents of Disadvantaged Youth Association and DOLE MIMAROPA OIC-Regional Director.
The awarding of the IDR Scholarship to Lozada is another way of expressing the DOLE’s continuing support to its valued clients. In this situation, not only Lozada and his family have benefitted but also the Parents of Disadvantaged Youth Association wherein Lozada’s mother is a bonafide member and treasurer, one of the requirements of the scholarship program, and Barangay Cambunang as well.
In November 2014, DOLE granted P147,800.00 to this association for the procurement of equipment, tools and raw materials needed for Peanut Butter Making project. The livelihood project was awarded not only to help parents of identified child laborers and children at risk in Brgy Cambunang to earn additional income and be able to send their children back to school but also as DOLE’s aid to Brgy Cambunang to attain a status of a Child Labor Free Barangay (CLFB).
DOLE OrMin through DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Office led the CLFB implementation in the province of Or. Mindoro with other key partners: Municipal Government of Bulalacao - Mayor, Vice Mayor, Health Office, Social Welfare Dev. Office, PESO, PNP, DepEd –Alternative Learning System were able to assist Barangay Cambunang in attaining all indicators of a CLFB. Thus, on December 23, 2015, DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director, Atty Alvin M. Villamor, signed a Child Labor Free Barangay Certificate for the said barangay.
The Isabelo De Los Reyes Scholarship Grants (IDRSG), under the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) of DOLE is open to legitimate children of bonafide officers or members of locals/chapters of labor federations, independent unions, workers’ associations and workers’ cooperatives who are not more than thirty (30) years old. It provides full scholarship of a four or five year course at the collegiate level.
