DOLE MIMAROPA awards 5 BuB projects in Naujan and Victoria amounting to P2.580M

An aggregate  amount of  TWO MILLION FIVE HUNDRED  EIGHTY THOUSAND PESOS (P2,580,000.00) was awarded by DOLE-MIMAROPA through DOLE-Oriental Mindoro Field Office headed by Engr. Juliana H. Ortega on February 07 and February 13, 2017 to the municipalities of Victoria and Naujan, respectively, through their respective Local Chief Executives  (LCEs). 

The proposed projects were approved by DOLE Regional Director Alvin M. Villamor with the above stated amount as whole package of assistance intended for the purchase of raw materials and  equipment necessary in the operation of five (5) livelihood projects under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) program, broken down  as follows : 

            For  Victoria :

1.     Jeepney Service Center for Victoria Operators, Drivers and Commuters Organization (w/ 60 members) – P500,000.00;

2.     Metal Works Fabrication and Service Center for Victoria Socio-Economic Development Foundation, Inc. (w/ 85 members) - P830,000.00 ; and

3.     Food Cart for Pantawid Beneficiaries for Balikatang Samahang Pantawid (with 33 members) – P500,000.00; and 

For Naujan :

1.    Concrete Hollow Blocks Making  for KADANGGAY Association (w/ 38 members)- P375,000.00; and

2.    Cakes and Pastries Making for Malayang Kababaihan Kumakalaban Sa Kahirapan (with 28 members) -  P375,000.00.

The total amount also includes the coverage of  insurance of  members for a period of one (1) year.

The Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) Program, as we recall,  is a strategy which allows greater participation and involvement of grassroots or marginalized organizations and communities in planning and budgeting to carry out the government’s Millennium Development Goal of reducing poverty  from 2009 to 2016.

During the awarding, Engr. Ortega congratulated the beneficiaries and said that DOLE expects for the sustainability and growth of each project which will heavily rely on the project management team and the members’ commitment and cooperation to work as a team. She also pointed out that DOLE- Or. Mindoro will always be willing to guide and assist them should there be business operation related problem/s they may come across in the future. She also added, that for a period of three (3) years, DOLE will monitor the operation of the projects in close coordination with the LGUs through the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs). As she continued, she expressed words of gratitude to the LCEs for the support provided in the past in the implementation of DOLE’s programs and services through their PESOs. “This Year 2017, we expects more from LGUs as we offer the different programs and services applicable in your area particularly the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) and  DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment program (DILEEP).  Our Regional Director, Atty. Villamor, always welcomes submission of proposal with a promise of sustainable and feasible project, and with complete attachments, as well” she disclosed. 

In their short messages, Hon. Joselito C. Malabanan and Hon. Mark N. Marcos, Mayor of Victoria and Naujan, respectively,  were both very appreciative to the DOLE specially to  Director Villamor for the assistance provided, rest assured they will continuously monitor the project implementation and will provide DOLE of the updates  through their PESO.  They also uttered words of continuous support to DOLE in the implementation of its gainful programs and services especially crafted for our less fortunate constituents. Addressing to the associations officers, both LCEs  challenged them to prove that they are really worth of the trust  given by DOLE. They have to work conscientiously as a group towards sustainability and growth of their business, both LCEs added. 

On the other hand, the presidents of the associations, were also very thankful to DOLE for the trust and for recognizing their capability to operate their respective livelihood project. They said, they will exert their best effort to keep up the operation of their business until such time it grew up into an enterprise capable of generating employment for their community.

Witnessing the turnover of checks to the 2 LCEs were the PESO Managers, officers of the workers associations and Riezar Lacpapan, DOLE’s Job Order – BuB Projects. In Victoria, Vice Mayor Imelda N. Callo and members of the Sangguniang Bayan were also there.
