DOLE Romblon awards 867K livelihood to Tanagan NHS PTA

February 9, 2017 – the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Romblon Field Office awarded a total of Php 867,169.00 to Tanagan National High School Parents Teachers Association (Tanagan HNS PTA) for their livelihood project “Management of a School Canteen w/ Catering Services” at Tanagan National High School, Tanagan, San Andres, Romblon.

Present during the awarding ceremonies were DOLE Romblon Field Officer Carlo B. Villaflores who was warmly welcomed by the Tanagan Brgy. Officials headed by Miguel B. Gabayno, Jr.; Tanagan NHS PTA officers and members; and Tanagan NHS Community headed by their Principal, Mrs. Zayra F. Andal.

In his message, Mr. Villaflores encouraged the group to have trust between each member and officer for a more harmonious relationship within the association. He also challenged the association to have commitment and make their livelihood fruitful so that both the school community and the association will reap the benefits of their endeavor.

Likewise, Mr. Villaflores reiterated that the aim of this livelihood is to help the association to have an extra income in addition to what they earn regularly for a decent living. Furthermore, this endeavor will enhance the skills and competency of Tanagan NHS students. Aside from these, the school community can ensure that the foods students will eat are affordable, clean and healthy.

Mrs. Andal thanked the department in approving their request for livelihood. “Ito ay isang magandang balita sa amin. Who would not want to avail a program such as this na isang napakagandang programa. Hindi lamang matutulungan ang mga magulang sa pagkakaroon ng karagdagang kita araw-araw para sa kanilang pamilya, makakatulong din ito sa paglilinang ng kakayanan ng ating mga mag-aaral. Pag naging matagumpay ang ating livelihood, maaari tayong maka-avail ng mga add-on projects such as scholarship program and additional livelihood”, she explained to the members of the association.

Barangay Captain Gabayno likewise thanked the department for helping his school community. “Salamat sa DOLE. Di ko inakalang mapagbibigyan ang hiling namin na livelihood program. Taos-puso po kaming nagpapasalamat. Akala namin ay kwento lang ang pagtulong ng inyong departamento pero totoo pala dahil nandito kayo upang iabot sa amin ang pondo”, he quipped.

The awarded fund will be used to purchase various equipment, tools, jigs, raw materials, among others specified in the submitted proposal of the association and approved by the department in order to materialize their goal - to give their members additional source of income to alleviate their living condition and help the students develop their technical-vocational skills in catering and cookery.
