Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan, at Konsyumer coincides Baragatan sa Palawan Festival

In line with this year’s celebration of the 115th Founding Anniversary of the Civil Government of Palawan or popularly tagged as Baragatan sa Palawan Festival on June 21-23, 2017, DTI MIMAROPA, DOLE MIMAROPA and other national government agencies in the Province jointly conducted its 5th leg of the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan at Konsyumer program. This year’s Baragatan was themed “Sa Likas-Kayang Turismo, Palaweño ay Aasenso.”

The event started with a well-organized jobs fair and inter-agency consultation of programs and services at VJR Hall of the Provincial Capitol of Palawan. About six hundred applicants participated in the said event. A total of twenty-five local establishments with local job openings participated, majority of which came from the retail and service industries. Five overseas recruitment agencies conducted preliminary interviews with applicants seeking opportunities abroad. Consultations with the different government sectors regarding employment and livelihood were also offered to job seekers. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of Tourism (DOT) were among the participating government agencies.

Mr. Richard P. Rebote, Provincial PESO Manager of Palawan, welcomed the Palaweño jobseekers and the different participating agencies. Mr. Bernardo Toriano, DOLE Palawan Provincial Head, encouraged the job applicants and provided useful tips on job hunting. Palawan Second District Board Member Ms. Marivic Roxas, inspired the applicants through her brief message and assured them that the Provincial Government of Palawan is always creating programs and avenues for Palaweños to gain decent employment. Mr. Jonathan Gerodias of POEA Palawan, briefed the applicants, especially those who wanted to seek employment abroad, that they should be wary of illegal recruitment agencies. He added that the applicants should verify if the overseas employment agencies they are dealing with have valid license from POEA.

Regional Director Joel Valera of DTI formally introduced the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan, at Konsyumer (TNKK) program - an inter-agency convergence among the different government sectors geared to aggressively promote employment and entrepreneurial activities. “The different sectors combined its resources to bring employment and business activities to the people”, he said. Instead of having it done in one province, Director Valera wanted it to be done in all provinces of MIMAROPA so that every province will be able to attend and benefit from this significant event.

The TNKK was conducted in three (3) consecutive days; first, the jobs fair and inter-agency consultancy; second, Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan, a proper forum for investors and MSME’s; and third, Konsyumer. The purpose of the business fair is to help the informal sectors who want to take the first step in starting a business and entrepreneurs who want to enhance their business skills and to facilitate business registrations.

The 3-day event was made possible through the convergence of DTI, DOLE, POEA, OWWA, DSWD, DAR, DOT, TESDA, DOST, City Government of Puerto Princesa, and Provincial Government of Palawan.
