DOLE OccMin strengthens partnership with Stakeholders in commemoration of World Day against Child La

With this year’s theme “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labour’, the Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA Region thru DOLE Occidental Mindoro Field Office successfully held the celebration of World Day Against Child Labor on July 14, 2017 in Brgy. Ligaya, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

The half-day activity was attended by 40 children aged 10-17 from Cebu Elementary School, together with their parents and stakeholders from PNP thru PSI Clarinda Lorenzo, Ms. Ma. Nona Feliciano (DepEd), Ms. Shiela Madrigal (School Head), Ms. Grace Fille (PESO Manager), Mr. Walter Marquez (Sangguniang Bayan) and Ms. Chonna Ordenez (MSWDO) who also discussed their respective programs for the protection of children.


A short presentation on the advocacy of child labor was also conducted by Ms. Rosemarie Campos and Mr. Gener Francisco from DOLE, discussing the rights of the child, what is child labor, the differences between child work and child labor, worst forms of child labor, Republic Act 9231 and its implementing rules, penalties and actions of both government and non-government offices to combat Child Labor,

In the message of Mr. Roy V. Balleza, he deeply expressed the Department’s thrust in helping the parents of the child laborers to have their own source of viable project yielding a sustainable income, “All children have the right to be protected from child labor,  this day serves to emphasize this issue and put forward possible solutions by providing encouragement for children to finish their education, despite the hardships in life, everything is possible if the parents have a strong will to support it, after all, education is still one of the proven long term solutions to poverty”, Balleza said

Among the highlights of the activity were the distribution of educational supplies (bags, notebooks, writing pad, eraser, ballpen, ruler, sharpener, pencil, crayons, pencil case, and umbrella) to the identified children at risk. Truly, the children’s smile were contagious as it perfectly showed their innocence.

At the end of the activity, the parents signified their support to the program and the assurance to further promote the rights of their children and to push them forward to finish their education and achieve their dreams.


The International Labour Organisation (ILO) established the World Day against Child Labour, to be commemorated each year on 12th of June.
