Tulong Panghanapbuhay caravan serves more than 1,000 workers

ORIENTAL MINDORO - In March 2019, DOLE OrMin Team led by Mr. Ramezes R. Torres went to the different barangays in Oriental Mindoro bringing the assistance package of Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Mga Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).  Under this program, workers are provided short-term or emergency employment in social community projects which include repair, maintenance, and/or improvement of common public facilities and infrastructure, debris clearing, de-clogging of canals, debris segregation and materials recovery, stockpiling and clearing.

Initially, more than 1,000 workers were identified as either displaced, underemployed or unemployed to render emergency employment for a period of 10 days within the month of March 2019.  They were distributed in municipalities such as Pinamalayan (250), Socorro (50), Naujan (400) and Calapan City (450). After the employment period, the workers are entitled to receive 100 percent of the prevailing minimum wage in the province, bringing the total amount of their wages to PhP3,680,000. Later, DOLE will facilitate this payment.

During the caravan, the team facilitated the workers’ orientation on basic occupational safety and health, contract signing, ID preparation and registration with GSIS insurance.  Appropriate personal protective equipment were also released to individual workers.

The municipalities of Bongabong and Baco are the next destination of the same caravan.
