DOLE Romblon joins the unity walk in celebration of Labor Day

Job fairs and livelihood trainings are common activities during the celebration of Labor Day. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Romblon Field Office in partnership with the Municipal Government of Odiongan commemorates the annual activity through a unity walk participated by the Bureau of Fire, Philippine National Police and members of the organized workers association in the municipality.

A short program was followed to elucidate the essence of the activity. Ms. Jude Gabat, Tourism Officer of Odiongan articulated that such undertaking is just the beginning of how the municipality will celebrate Labor Day on the next coming years. Unity Walk signifies the accord of government participating agencies when it comes to uniting workers for social and economic advancement.

Magkaisa tayo!” -  Mr. Carlo B. Villaflores, Head - DOLE Romblon Field Office

“Remember na tayo ay parang isang katawan ng tao, ang isang function ay para makakita, ang ibang function para magsalita, ang ibang function para mag-isip, ang ibang function para gumawa pero whatever we do, whatever our role let us do it with a sense of purpose, maganda po ang trabaho but most of all may principle na this is for the love of my town, my country and my family. Importante din that is executed with a concerted effort, may unity at importante din po na ang bawat isa sa atin ay may kanya kanyang function, whatever it is let us do it very well with all our hearts and mind. – Hon. Eduardo C. Firmalo, Governor- Province of Romblon

Labor Day in the Philippines is often celebrated with stage demonstrations of unions, to bring attention to the government about their grievances and issues such as raising the minimum wage and inhumane working conditions but here in Romblon it is by gathering different government agencies in one accord, yoking for the workers welfare.
