65 trained safety officers commit to promote, adopt safety workplace

BOAC, MARINDUQE – Safety Officer 1 (SO1) training was successfully conducted by Occupational Safety and Health Management System 360 in coordination with DOLE Marinduque Field Office held on 09 May 2019 at Balar Event Place.

Mr. Peter James D. Cortazar, Field Office Head of DOLE Marinduque welcomed the participants with an overview of the activity. “This training is a part of the compliance for RA 11058 as contained in DO 198-18” he said.

Senior Labor and Employment officer Mr. Marjun S. Moreno states that every establishment, even micro low risk establishment needs at least one trained SO1. A mandatory 8 hours orientation course along with a two hours trainers’ training shall be conducted by DOLE Accredited safety OSH Practitioner/consultant.

The training was facilitated by Engr. Ernie C. Rafallo. He is a Safety Officer 4, DOLE accredited OSH Practitioner, BFP Accredited Fire Safety Practitioner, TESDA accredited Scaffolder. This competent speaker dynamically coached the participants not only on how they could apply the safety precautionary measures in their workplace but also making the safety as a culture. “Accidents are cause, they can be prevented. After 16 years in safety industry, I realized that it is but right to share the basic knowledge on BOSH to workers to have a safe workplace”, he added.

At the end of the training, sixty-five (65) participants were equipped with the knowledge and ready to serve as safety officers in their respective areas.
