DOLE Palawan funds 3 livelihood projects in Quezon, Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY - In a simple ceremony, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Palawan Field Office awarded a total amount of Php907,010.00 to Barangay Local Government Units of Isugod and Aramaywan, Quezon, Palawan as Accredited Co-Partners (ACPs) for the livelihood projects of three workers association last January 7, 2020.

DOLE Palawan allotted Php311,000.00 for the livelihood project Fabric Softener Production of Overcome Savings Group Association and Php215,610.00 for Powder Detergent Production of Achiever Savings Group Association, both in Brgy. Isugod, while the remaining Php380,400.00 funded the Seaweed Production of Barukan Mandaragat Association in Brgy. Aramaywan.

The main source of income of majority of the members is either through farming or fishing. However, it does not suffice the need of their family which is still below the poverty line. Thus, the requested DOLE’s assistance for their livelihood projects will improve the socio-economic well-being of traditional farmers and fisherfolks in Quezon especially on lean months and increase the source of income of their members to sustain their day-to-day living.

DOLE Palawan Field Officer Luis B. Evangelista discussed the provision of Department Order 173, series of 2017 also known as the Revised Guidelines in the Implementation of the Department of Labor and Employment Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program to the officers of the associations and the Memorandum of Agreement to barangay officials. In his statement, Mr. Evangelista requested the group to operate their business well in order to have more income and provide more alternative source of livelihood to their members and in the future, the who community.

Moreover, he said that these livelihoods should also be taken seriously by the barangay officials as these could stir economic activity in their communities which in the long run could also be their legacy as public servants.  “You need to run this livelihood with passion and dedication so that more of your members will benefit from the assistance of the government. Never put your personal-vested interest on the finances of your livelihood. Once we see that you are successful in this endeavor, DOLE will further provide livelihood assistance to your group. Let us take care of the trust provided to us”, he added.

Mr. Evangelista also led the endorsement of checks to the barangay officials of the BLGUs. Also present in the awarding of checks were Provincial PESO Manager Richard P. Rebote, Provincial Legal Office Representative Atty. Mary Joy Moises Ordaneza and LGU Quezon PESO Manager Urduja C. Saspa. Likewise, Ms. Saspa informed the association that the Municipal PESO of Quezon will assist them for Gender and Development, Business and Financial Literacy trainings which will be tied up to other national government agencies.
