DOLE’s TUPAD salary now through money remittance

ORIENTAL MINDORO – DOLE inked an agreement with Palawan Express for the use of money remittance for faster and more convenient payout of salary of workers hired under Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa mga Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

Under TUPAD, displaced and underemployed workers were provided with emergency employment for a minimum period of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 90 days, depending on the nature of work.  After completion of work and submission of required documents to DOLE, they can claim their salary at any Palawan Express outlet immediately after receiving the notice through text messages.

DOLE partnership with Palawan Express also provides security for both DOLE personnel and its fund instead of the previous direct payment in cash to the beneficiaries.  Based on Department Order No. 173-17 prescribing the guidelines in the implementation of TUPAD, workers are entitled to the prevailing private sector minimum wage in the region.

Recently, a total of 1,818 workers claimed their salary through money remittance and one of them, Benita De Castro, from the municipality of Bongabong said: “Nagpapasalamat po ako pati na ang aking mga kasamahang nagtrabaho sa ilalim ng TUPAD sa DOLE at sa mga bumubuo nito sa sahod na natanggap namin.  Kahit mahaba po ang pila sa Palawan, nakuha din po namin ng agaran ang aming sweldo”. (We are very grateful to DOLE and its staff for the salary we received.  Despite many people at the Palawan outlet, we were able to get our salary quickly).

In the upcoming days, there are remaining 4,779 TUPAD workers to receive their salary through money remittance.
