DOLE Romblon educates Persons Deprived with Liberty in BJMP-Odiongan

Odiongan, Romblon. With the Department’s vision: every Filipino worker attains full, decent, and productive employment, DOLE is very fortunate to be a part of transforming lives specifically to the Persons Deprived with Liberty at BJMP Progreso Este, Odiongan, Romblon.

On January 16, 2020, DOLE Romblon Field Office was invited to conduct labor education and promote programs and services to a total of 47 PDL-trainees.

These PDL-trainees will undergo Tile Setting NC II for 11 days under the Training for Work Scholarship Program of TESDA thru Citadel Training Center Inc.

Going home is one of the undeniable wishes of every PDL behind the bars. Thus, they really showed interest during the discussion of Worker’s Rights and Obligations and Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

Despite of the fact that some of them may experience discrimination in employment, these persons are very positive in becoming an entrepreneur and freelance worker in the near future.

At present, detainees in BJMP-Odiongan are producing quality coin banks in different characters made of coconut shells and locally made slippers which are available in some stores in the province.

During Christmas season, they also showcase their skills in making Christmas decors. This Office has bought two artistically made Christmas decors last Christmas.

Some of the PDLs had trainings already prior to detention. Thus, after the promotion of the Department’s program on employment facilitation and preservation, these PDL-trainees were inspired and motivated to avail and live a normal life again when they got home.
