DOLE prepares senior high school students on the world of work

To prepare the senior high school students in responding to the varying employment trends and provide responsive labor market information, the Department of Labor and Employment – Occidental Mindoro Field Office in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Abra de Ilog thru its Public Employment Service Office conducted a one-day Pre-Immersion Seminar on January 22, 2020 at San Rafael High School, Inc.

Under the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, Senior High School students has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student's postsecondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence.

Among the topics discussed for the whole session were (1) “Writing a Comprehensive Resume and Cover Letter, (2) Labor Market Trends, and (3) How to Prepare for Job Interview and the needed skills to ace job interviews.

Attended by 55 senior high school students who took General Academic Strand (GAS), and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), these students shall be able to apply the skills and proper values they have acquired in school while undertaking work immersion which in return, prepares them on the world of work.

With the success of this activity, the students are now able to enhance their technical knowledge and skills in writing an effective resume; enrich their skills in communications and human relations especially during job interviews; and while onboard, they shall develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of employment or higher education after graduation.
