DOLE MIMAROPA responds COVID-19 crisis in OccMin thru TUPAD #BKBK

The province of Occidental Mindoro is one of the provinces in Southern Luzon that is placed under the Enhanced Community Quarantine due to Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak that literally put a stop in the livelihood of workers in the informal sector and prevented them to provide support to their families during these difficult times.

With this alarming crisis, DOLE MIMAROPA thru its Occidental Mindoro Field Office (OcciMin FO) immediately responded by providing the affected workers a ten (10) - day emergency employment under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program #Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko (TUPAD #BKBK) Disinfecting/Sanitation Project.

TUPAD #BKBK is a short term emergency employment program for the qualified underemployed and self-employed workers in the informal economy who momentary lost their livelihood due to COVID-19 pandemic.

In exchange of P320.00 daily or P3,200.00 for ten days services rendered, qualified beneficiaries perform sanitizing/disinfecting jobs in their own residential houses and in their vicinity.

The said work scheme is designed pursuant to the government’s directive to strictly enforce social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

On April 3, DOLE OcciMin FO Head Carlo B. Villaflores turned-over the checks amounting to P480,000.00 each to the Local Government Units (LGU) of  Magsaysay and Calintaan and P640,000.00 to LGU Rizal, as the Department’s Accredited Co-Partners (ACPs) in implementing the program. The said amounts shall be used solely to pay the wages of 500 workers.  Also, 125 beneficiaries endorsed by LGU Sta. Cruz have directly availed of the TUPAD BKBK from DOLE.

Moreover, the following LGUs will commence their disinfecting/sanitizing activities by 13 April 2020:

Meanwhile, pre-employment documents of LGU San Jose with 150 beneficiaries are being reviewed and finalized by DOLE OccMin to be forwarded to Regional Office for its issuance of notice to proceed.

DOLE OccMin FO is closely working with the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in the province and in all municipalities and the health offices in the area to ensure successful implementation of the program.

TUPAD #BKBK is one of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of DOLE under “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” under Republic Act No. 11469 approved by President Duterte on March 24, 2020 and in line with Proclamations No. 922 and 929 series of 2020 declaring a State of Public Health Emergency and State of Calamity throughout the country due to COVID-19.
