DOLE gives livelihood to 3 Palawe├▒os during COVID-19 pandemic

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN – DOLE MIMAROPA through DOLE Palawan Field Office was able to extend livelihood assistance very timely in this time of COVID Pandemic to the three (3) beneficiaries belonging to the vulnerable sectors of our society in the total amount of Php 59,996.25 on 04 June 2020.

In a simple awarding ceremony, Palawan Field Office Head Luis B. Evangelista and livelihood focal Ma. Socorro U. Marquez, personally awarded the grocery items to the following beneficiaries to give them an opportunity to have additional source of income and support their families:

Amount of Procured Goods

Joharra C. Guiali

Lolita M. Sabuya

Cherie F. Zumaraga

Guiali is a 56-year old housewife with five kids and lives in Brgy. San Manuel, Puerto Princesa City. Her income from her small sari-sari store and being a massage therapist as a side job were not enough to support her large family especially that her husband’s livelihood as a tricycle driver was also affected by the said pandemic.

Likewise, Sabuya is a 57-year old housewife with three children. She is the only one who supports the education of her children and the medicine of her husband since he is bed-ridden due to cardio-vascular ailment. Prior to DOLE support, she gets her income from her small store in talipapa in Brgy. Sicsican, Puerto Princesa City and being a laundrywoman during her vacant times. With additional support from DOLE, she is praying that her income may suffice the daily needs of her whole family.

Meanwhile, Zumaraga is a 46-year old housewife with two teenage children. Her family’s income only comes from her husband as vehicle driver at payment from her churchmates for doing various errands to them and this does not suffice the needs of her growing family. She believes that the financial support of DOLE will give additional and stable source of income for the whole family while she is at home.

In these trying times, DOLE MIMAROPA under the leadership of Regional Director Albert E. Gutib need to double its efforts to extend services to the clients not only in the formal sector but also in the informal as well, particularly those who are seeking for additional source of income as he said “Livelihood assistance under kabuhayan program is the DOLE’s contribution in the government which aims to reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers”

Moreover, Evangelista congratulated the livelihood recipients and encouraged them to make their respective livelihood prosper as this will surely help them and their dependents. Likewise, their future success can also be replicated and emulated by other beneficiaries of livelihood programs from the government.

Zumaraga said that she will make this livelihood grow as she considers it as a blessing “Masaya ako at nabigyan pa din ako ng Kabuhayan ng DOLE sa kabila ng banta ng COVID-19 pandemic ngayon. Isang malaking tulong po io sa aking pamilya” (I am happy that I was given livelihood by DOLE despite of this COVID-19 pandemic happening now. It will be a great help to my family), she added.
