PWD DOLE GIP beneficiary: continuing his journey as Public Servant

ORIENTAL MINDORO – Renan R. Alcedo, former intern of Department of Labor and Employment under Government Internship Program (GIP) has leveled up his employment status into a Job Order or a Project-based employee of City Government of Calapan. 

 Government Internship Program (GIP) is one of the programs of DOLE that provides young workers, particularly the poor/indigent including Persons With Disability (PWDs), opportunities to demonstrate their talents and skills in serving the public. The program also aims to attract the best and the brightest who want to pursue their chosen career particularly related to the promotion and development of labor and employment.

 Determined to gain experience in the government operations, Alcedo, high school graduate, was one of the selected applicants who took first steps of his career as government intern for a period of six (6) months. His impairment, being deaf and mute, does not prevent him pursue his career; he maximizes his time and effort to gain his competence from the office works as data encoder.

  In the past, he was assigned at the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOrM) Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for the period May 4, 2015 to December 23, 2015. At the end of this internship period, his belief in his self was strongly established as he also believes he is socially integrated in the society armed with self-confidence and competence.

             Alcedo was noted as committed intern, thus after a year he was endorsed by PGOrM-PESO to Sangguniang Panglusod ng Calapan under the office of Hon. Mylene A. de Jesus.

 DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Albert E. Gutib congratulated Alcedo for confidently showing that there should be no disability to hinder any dreams as long as you are determined and dedicated “You deserve to reap what you sow, with this success story, you serve as a role model not only for the PWDs but also to the youths who are eyeing to have a good future”.

 Through an interpreter, Alcedo gave thanks to DOLE MIMAROPA as he said “I would like to send my heartfelt gratitude to DOLE for choosing me as one of their beneficiaries back then. The internship helped me a lot not only by boosting my confidence, but also giving me the chance to work in the government despite of my disability. I am still applying all the learnings and experiences I gained as intern to my current employment as Job Order in City Government of Calapan since October 2016. Again, thank you very much Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA.”
