DOLE Awards P2.2 Million to LGU Socorro for Emergency Employment of Displaced Workers

ORIENTAL MINDORO – DOLE MIMAROPA through its Oriental Mindoro Field Office turned over PHP2,220,800.00 to the Local Government Unit of Socorro last 24 June 2020 for the emergency employment of 694 displaced informal sector workers whose livelihood and income were affected due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine to mitigate the transmission of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib was represented by his Provincial Director Roderick F. Tamacay and program focal person Ramezes R. Torres who personally awarded the check to LGU Socorro Mayor Maria Fe V. Brondial.

“Thank you sa DOLE, malaking tulong po ito sa aming vegetable farming lalo’t may crisis sa ating bansa” (Thank you DOLE for the assistance, this is a big help for our vegetable farming especially that we have a crisis in our country), Mayor Brondial said.

Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.

PD Tamacay reiterated that under the TUPAD Post-COVID intervention, the nature of work of the TUPAD beneficiaries are; disinfection of public places, general cleaning and controls of public roads, alleys, parks and drainage canals, agroforestry works and backyard gardening and vegetation gardening of open spaces devoted for agricultural production. 

Beneficiaries shall be paid of their 10-day work based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region or equivalent to an amount of Php3,200.00 per worker.
