DOLE grants P500k livelihood assistance to empower mothers in Occidental Mindoro

CALINTAAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – As everyone looks forward to recovering from the crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of 27 mothers in Barangay Concepcion, Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro have seized the opportunity to start anew through the livelihood project under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program or kabuhayan program, of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA Region.

On July 29, 2020, DOLE Occidental Mindoro Provincial Director (PD) Bernardo B. Toriano represented the OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib as he awarded a livelihood check worth PhP500,000.00 to Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Concepcion, Calintaan headed by Chieftain Leonora Z. Guiral as the DOLE’s Accredited Co-Partner.

The said fund is intended for the proposed project of Samahan ng mga Inang Nagkakaisa ng Tahanan Association (SINTA) led by its President, Josephine G. Villaluna for the establishment of the first bakery in the locality.

SINTA is a group of women duly registered in DOLE last 25 October 2017, which has a common goal to create a sustainable source of livelihood that will help its members to have an income and be at par with the minimum wage earners.

Chieftain Guiral advised the association to be transparent and have open communication with each other to avoid conflicts. She further emphasized that having trust and transparency will bring a good effect on their association as it will promote harmonious relationships within.

On the other hand, PD Toriano also encouraged the association to value the amount entrusted to them, that if you can be trustworthy in little things, then you can be trusted with more than that. "Strive to handle everything in your life as you live with your purpose. Handle those things in a trustworthy manner, so that others can trust you with greater things," he said.

“Truly this project will not just provide an additional income to our members but will also benefit our community as well, we will be known as the best producer of fresh, delicious, and affordable bread in town. Thank you so much DOLE MIMAROPA, we will assure you that we will value the trust that you have given to us.” Villaluna said during the awarding.

Notably, as the pandemic and job crisis grows, DOLE’s kabuhayan program is a timely intervention on the urgent need to protect the vulnerable sectors in the region.
