DOLE releases P1.5M for Emergency Employment in Concepcion, Romblon

On 04 August 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), MIMAROPA Region through its Romblon Field Office awarded the checks to the Barangay Local Government Units (LGU) in Concepcion Municipality, Romblon, representing wages of Sibalenhon beneficiaries under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) or emergency employment program.

TUPAD is one of the services of DOLE that supports the government to at least lessen the ill effects of the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic to our workers in the country.

It has been a great challenge to DOLE MIMAROPA in providing employment programs and services to the residents in the island municipalities of the region like Concepcion, Romblon because of raging ocean waves during stormy weather condition.

DOLE Director Albert E. Gutib emphasized in one of his directives to Field Office frontliners that; “Despite of this challenge, we are to reach out and serve qualified beneficiaries especially those in the remotest and island municipalities and barangays in the region as they are the most in need of our services in this trying times.”

“Our region is divided into island provinces but our team is one and united and determined to bring our package of assistance to our clients especially to the vulnerable workers amid crisis,” Director Gutib added.

Director Gutib strongly supports the poverty reduction programs of the government through continuous collaboration with LGUs and other stakeholders for the welfare of MIMAROPAns.

A total amount of Php1,504,000.00 representing workers’ wages was granted to nine barangays of Concepcion as DOLE’s Accredited Co-Partners in the implementation to TUPAD, to wit:

After rendering 10-day work such as sanitation and disinfection, including repacking and distribution of the relief goods in their community, each beneficiary received Php3,200.00 based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat dahil nakapagtrabaho po ako sa ilalim ng TUPAD na malaking kapakinabangan din po sa aming barangay dahil nalinis ang aming lugar... malaking tulong po ito sa amin lalo na sa panahon po ngayon,” (I’m very thankful because I was given the chance to work under TUPAD wherein our barangay also benefitted from the sanitation and disinfection work program.. this is timely and relevant to us), said Mr. Rolando S. Familaran, TUPAD beneficiary.

TUPAD program is a community-based package of short-term wage employment assistance of the department to mitigate the impact of calamities, disasters and pandemics on workers in the informal economy.
