Corcuera receives DOLE programs amid Pandemic

CORCUERA, ROMBLON – On 25 August 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Romblon Field Office poured various programs to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of this municipality for its constituents to help mitigate the harmful effects of health crisis during this COVID 19 pandemic.

As the recipients of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Government Internship Program (GIP), and the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP), Corcuera LGU officials were very grateful to the DOLE being their partner in providing assistance and support to the distressed residents in the municipality due to the ill effects of the current health crisis.

Under TUPAD which provides emergency employment to displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers, LGU Corcuera served as DOLE’s accredited co-partner and was awarded an amount of P982,400.00 representing wages of 307 TUPAD beneficiaries who will be engaged in the sanitation and disinfection projects in the different barangays for ten days.

For GIP implementation which aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve the general public in government agencies/entities’ projects and programs at the national and local levels, three young people will serve as interns in the government offices for three (3) months and each to receive P320.00 daily stipend.

On the other hand, Laura Jane F. Fojas, a first year college student of Romblon State University taking up Bachelor in Secondary Education, topped the qualifying examination and upon careful assessment by DOLE Romblon and approval at the Regional Office, she was selected as a recipient of WODP Scholarship Program of the Department. 

WODP Scholarship aims to provide educational opportunities and benefits for members or dependents of registered labor organizations and workers associations under the Isabelo Delos Reyes (IDR) Scholarship. It also aims to enhance the leadership capabilities and potentials of the student-beneficiaries to be future leaders in their chosen profession. In addition to free tuition fees, Fojas shall receive a monthly stipend of P3,500.00 plus book allowance for eight semesters.

Corcuera Municipal Mayor Elmer F. Fruelda expressed his high appreciation and gratitude to DOLE as he said “Sa DOLE maraming salamat sa pagkakaloob ulit sa amin nang panibagong programa under TUPAD, WODP at GIP, mahigit 307 to be exact ang muling benepisyaryo ng DOLE sa aming bayan ng Corcuera. Maraming maraming salamat po sa patuloy na pagtulong sa amin lalo na po sa panahon ngayon na nakakaranas po tayo ng krisis, pandemya, malaking bagay po ito sa aming mga constituents. Maraming Maraming Salamat po!” (Once again, thank you so much DOLE for the assistance under TUPAD, WODP and GIP that will cater to more than 307 beneficiaries in the municipality of Corcuera. Representing DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, Provincial Director Carlo B. Villaflores of Romblon Field Office in return thanked the local chief executive of LGU Corcuera for appreciating the department’s intervention as he said “Thank you for the support and please be reminded with existing minimum health protocols and standards in implementing these programs. Rest assured that DOLE will continuously work with the LGUs to develop human resources for Romblomanons.”

As we are now heading to the last quarter of this year, DOLE will continuously deliver whatever possible assistance given the available resources for the benefit of MIMAROPAns.
