SENA settles P657K benefitting construction workers in Cajidiocan, Romblon

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Romblon Field Office (FO) through the assistance of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Cajidiocan, Romblon facilitated the settlement of money claims in the amount of P657,933.00 last 24 August 2020 benefitting twenty six construction workers through the conduct of Single Entry Approach (SEnA).

Due to COVID-19 quarantine guidelines imposing limitation on face to face encounter, mass gatherings and conferences and encouraging the use of online technology and platform, DOLE Romblon FO was able to handle the request for assistance (RFA) filed by the construction workers thru telephone calls and with the aid of PESO Cajidiocan.

The affected workers sought the assistance of the DOLE Romblon FO to address some general labor standards issues such as underpayment of wages, non- payment of holiday pay and 13th month pay, non–coverage with the mandated social security benefits and illegal dismissal.

Determined to settle the RFA, SEnA desk officer Christine M. Espinosa employed strategies that convinced the employer to settle labor issues raised.  Seeing the willingness of the employer to settle the said issues, the SEnA Officer made several follow ups and monitoring thru phone until settlement agreement was forged wherein workers were paid of their monetary claims ranging from P5,363.00 to P73,501.00.

Considering the archipelagic situation of Romblon Province where travel restrictions are still in effect, and with close supervision from DOLE Romblon FO, Cajidiocan PESO Manager Alpha G. Ramirez facilitated and witnessed the payment and submitted the records as proof of settlement to the Office.

“Maraming salamat po. Natanggap na po namin ang nais naming makuha. Kung hindi po dahil sa inyo ay hindi po naresolba ang aming problema kaya muli maraming salamat po at God bless. Mabuhay po kayo!” Requesting party said as they expressed their sincerest gratefulness to the department for the latter’s assistance. (Thank you very much. We already received what we are supposed to receive, and that was made possible through your assistance, again thank you. God bless and Mabuhay!)

In today’s circumstances, developing innovative ways in serving the public towards the new normal is one of the marching orders of DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib. “We are really challenged to implement the department’s programs and services adopting the new normal. We have to virtually deliver our commitments and mandates to our clients given the restrictions. We have to embrace these challenges to improve our services and seek the aid of our stakeholders on the ground such as the local government units (LGU) thru the PESOs to reach out to our clients.  This settlement story is just one of the process improvements of the department in serving the public towards the life of the new normal,” Director Gutib said.

Single Entry Approach is an administrative approach to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive and accessible settlement procedure for all issues/complaints arising from employer-employee relations to prevent them from ripening into full blown disputes.
