Webinar highlights 7S of Good Housekeeping in Marinduque

BOAC, MARINDUQUE - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Marinduque Field Office in collaboration with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) MIMAROPA successfully conducted an online seminar on 7S of Good Housekeeping last 27 August 2020 with 62 participants representing 37 establishments.

In his opening remarks, Provincial Director Peter James D. Cortazar acknowledged the participation of the management and the workers from the different establishments and shared the significance and importance of efficient hygiene manner especially in these challenging times and said “We have never experienced an event with such a drastic impact on how we live and work in this COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we must do the right things and be prepared to take steps beyond what we are typically required to do. Our top priority is the health and safety of our employees, customers, and partners. Personal hygiene is our first line of defense and the very best weapon to arm ourselves in the fight against this contagious disease.”

During the session proper, RTWPB’s Board Secretary Romeo E. Opis, presented and discussed the importance and significance of the efficient hygiene manner through application of 7S of Good Housekeeping - Sort, Systematize, Sweep, Standardize, Self-discipline, Sustain and Safety.

“The general concept of 7S intends to optimize the physical workspace for efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the area and sustaining the new order to ensure safety of the workers in the most efficient manner,” Board Secretary Opis said.

DOLE MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director Atty. Erwin N. Aquino who represented OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, joined the webinar and appreciated the management and the workers for their time in attending the webinar and said “This topic is very timely and will really help your establishments to combat the alarming effects of COVID-19. 7S somehow contributes to productivity thus if employees are productive, for sure the company will benefit from it, whereas employers will take good care of their workers in return. This culture would help the government in promoting sound and productive business opportunities.”

At the end of the session, participants prepared an action plan to implement the 7S in their workplaces as well as to set a starting point for their good housekeeping plans for the betterment of their own establishments.

The 7S is the expanded version of the Japanese Methodology in good housekeeping being adapted by the department as part of the modules in promoting productivity among establishments and/or organizations.
