DOLE’s P14 Million TUPAD fund benefits 4,436 workers in Marinduque

In order to recover from the economic loss brought about by the coronavirus disease or COVID 19 pandemic, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA through its Marinduque Field Office, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Marinduque (PGM) and its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), was able to provide emergency employment to 4,436 informal and displaced workers from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) involving a total amount of Php14,195,200.00.

The PGM served as the accredited co-partner in the implementation of the TUPAD project in the province.

In a memorandum of agreement forged, the PGM and the DOLE agreed to engage the workers to work on disinfection and sanitation projects of the different barangays in the province which lasted for 10 working days.  This was one of the province’s measures to control local transmission and the spreading of COVID-19.

TUPAD was implemented in two batches wherein the first 1,468 beneficiaries worked from July 24, 2020 to August 2, 2020 while the remaining 2,968 beneficiaries, were engaged in the said activities last August 04 to13, 2020.

Each beneficiary received a salary of P320.00 per day based on the highest prevailing minimum wage rate for private sector in the region or a total of P3,200.00.

Governor Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr. through his son Provincial Administrator (PA) Michael Quinto Velasco expressed his gratitude to DOLE for the latter’s support that helped the workers and their families, both in the formal and informal sectors in coping up in these trying times. He then reminded the beneficiaries to be thankful for all the aids and support from the government that they received.

“Magpasalamat tayo dahil tayo ang napili para sa programang ito. Mahirap ang buhay ngayon, mahirap kumita at mahirap maghanap ng trabaho. Malaking tulong ito para itawid natin ang pangangailangan natin sa pang-araw araw na buhay sa panahon natin ngayon. Nawa ay maging ligtas at maayos tayo palagi. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.” PA Velasco said during the payment of wages. (We should be thankful for choosing us as the beneficiaries of this program. Life is too tough today so as to earn an income and find a job. Hence, this assistance is very helpful to meet our daily needs. We should always take good care of ourselves and be safe. Thank you very much to all.)

In response, representing DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, Provincial Director Peter James D. Cortazar thanked the leaders of PG Marinduque for the strong support in the department and said “As we face the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DOLE continues to support the LGUs and ensures that its programs and services are equitably and efficiently implemented in the province of Marinduque.

Nilia V. Marquez, one of the beneficiaries of Brgy. Santol, Boac also expressed her gratitude for DOLE’s TUPAD as she said “Malaki po ang naitulong sa akin ng TUPAD lalo sa panahon ngayon. Madami at malaki ang naitulong nito sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay ng aming pamilya lalo na sa pag-aaral.” (TUPAD has helped a lot to me especially these trying times. It really helps our family to sustain our daily living especially for the school expenditures).

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.
