DOLE supports Chocolate Project in Oriental Mindoro

 

BONGABONG, ORIENTAL MINDORO – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) awarded last 09 September 2020 a livelihood grant amounting to P500 Thousand to United Farmers Association of Tawas (UFAT) through the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) as an accredited co-partner (ACP) for the Cacao Chocolate Making project at Barangay Tawas, this municipality.

UFAT, a DOLE-registered association with thirty-three Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), has 300 grown up cacao plants as source of their initial chocolate production that will be increased as the local government unit of Bongabong pledged to give additional 10 thousand cacao seedlings.

In terms of finished products and based on the market study, customers are being enticed of the products with good packaging and labelling. Hence, DOLE’s assistance is very timely as it will be used on the procurement of packaging equipment and materials that will not only improve the quality but will also serve as strategy for their products in market positioning.

            DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib through its Provincial Director Roderick F. Tamacay awarded the livelihood check to the association, and said: “The livelihood grant is a clear manifestation of the government’s commitment under the whole of nation approach to eradicate poverty and address unemployment especially in this time of pandemic.”

PD Tamacay also challenged the association to become productive and successful in order to inspire others in their community to follow the path they have taken.

Meanwhile, Dexter C. Caunceran, UFAT President, is very thankful to all the help of the government especially this time of pandemic as he passionately said “Kami ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa Department of Labor and Employment sa tulong na ibinigay sa aming asosasyon lalo na ngayong may krisis. Ito ay malaking tulong sa aming mga miyembro pati na rin sa aming mga kabarangay para magkaroon ng trabaho”. (We are very thankful to the Department of Labor and Employment for the assistance granted to our association especially this time of crisis. This is a big help to our members and also to our community for employment generation).

The turn-over ceremony was witnessed by A Teacher Partylist Representative Ma. Victoria Umali, Bongabong Mayor Elegio A. Malaluan, Engr. Isagani Placido of DAR and Tawas Barangay Captain Celso Mangubat.

This department’s assistance is under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) which seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers through promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises.
