P1.9M livelihood assistance for Economic Recovery in Sablayan
SABLAYAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO - The current crisis brought by COVID-19 has increased the awareness of the residents of Sablayan on the importance of diverse livelihood portfolios and local food production, thus also increasing people’s resilience and recovery from financial stresses.
On October 9, 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA thru its Occidental Mindoro Field Office (OcciMin FO) awarded livelihood grants to the local government unit (LGU) of Sablayan as Accredited Co-Partner (ACP), the amount of P1,920,312.00 benefitting 100 individual beneficiaries under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).
The said amount is intended for the establishment of tailoring shops, bigasan/rice-retailing, sari-sari stores, fish vending, food processing, poultry and hog raising, barbershops, bakeshops, and motorcycle repair centers in the locality.
It could be remembered that before the livelihood awarding, the beneficiaries have undergone financial management training on September 9, 2020, observing strict health protocols to teach them how to utilize their funds, project, and exercise cost and profit control.
Through this assistance, it is expected that the beneficiaries’ recovery from economic losses and the opportunity to start anew shall begin to pave its way, plus the establishment of various enterprises in Sablayan signals employment opportunities to others as well.
Meanwhile, Maria Christina Jongco, one of the beneficiaries expressed her gratitude to DOLE as she also witnessed the awarding.
“Maraming salamat po sa DOLE, sa LGU Sablayan at sa PESO sa pagbibigay sa akin ng pagkakataon na makapagsimula ng negosyo sa paggawa ng spicy dilis at puto. Malaking tulong po ito para sa aking pamilya, mabuhay po kayo.” she added. (Thank you to DOLE, LGU Sablayan and PESO for giving me an opportunity to put up my business on spicy dilis and puto production. This will be of great help for my family)
Moreover, representing DOLE MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, DOLE OcciMin Provincial Head Bernardo B. Toriano graced the awarding ceremonies as he said, “Although this pandemic has resulted in mass unemployment, DOLE shall always be committed in its mandate to assist our vulnerable workers since this is the crucial time you need our services. We must recognize this opportunity to build back better”.
On the other hand, LGU Sablayan Mayor Andres D. Dangeros lauded the department’s indefinable assistance in helping their constituents to recover from their losses brought by the pandemic.
“Maraming salamat sa Department of Labor and Employment sa walang sawang suporta na ibinibigay ninyo sa Sablayeños simula noon pa man. Malaking tulong ito upang makabangong muli ang aking mga kababayan na nalugmok dulot ng pandemiyang ito, pagtutulong-tulungan natin kasama ang Public Employment Service Office ng Sablayan na maging matagumpay ang mga proyektong ito.” Mayor Dangeros gratefully said. (Thank you to Department of Labor and Employment for always supporting Sablayeños. This is a big help to our kababayan who are affected by the pandemic, we will make this project successful with the help of Public Employment Service Office of Sablayan.)
DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) of the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, and promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises.
