DOLE releases P24M worth of TUPAD in OrMin for Displaced Workers


To cushion the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and provide assistance to affected workers of typhoon Quinta, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA Region released Php24,480,900.00 on 07 December 2020 in the province of Oriental Mindoro covering its 14 municipalities and Calapan City for the emergency employment under Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) benefiting 4,977 beneficiaries in the informal sector.

DOLE continuously reaches out to affected workers whose livelihood and income were affected due to the implementation of community quarantine including the victims from the wrath of typhoon Quinta.

            TUPAD beneficiaries were engaged in community works such as disinfection of public places, general cleaning and controls of public roads, alleys, parks and drainage canals, agroforestry works and backyard gardening and vegetation gardening of open spaces devoted for agricultural production.

At the end of 15-day working period, beneficiaries received their salaries through remittance center amounting to P4,800.00 or P320.00 per day based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region.

Jennylyn O. Jamilla of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro is very grateful being one of the TUPAD beneficiaries, as she said, “Maraming maraming salamat sa ating gobyerno sa pamamagitan ng (DOLE) at nabigyan kami ng ganitong tulong lalot sa panahon na may pandemya sa atin at marami ang nawalan ng trabaho. Ito ay malaking tulong sa amin lalot ngayon na mag papasko kami ay masaya at kahit may ganitong pandemya ay nandiyan ang ating gobyerno at mga National Government Agencies na handang tumulong. (I am really thankful to our government through DOLE that we were able to be included in this kind of work.  This is a great help from our financial aspect especially this coming Christmas. We really appreciate the government’s effort in helping us).

Meanwhile, representing DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, Oriental Mindoro Provincial Director Roderick F. Tamacay said “DOLE’s TUPAD is really like a knight in shining armour in the darkest moment brought by this COVID-19.  Through this assistance, affected workers/individuals get a timely relief from the government to ease their burden.” 

TUPAD under Bayanihan to Recover as One Act 2, is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.
