DOLE assists 246 informal sector workers in Cuyo under the TUPAD program

CUYO, PALAWAN - The Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA thru its Palawan Field Office facilitated the payment of salaries of 246 TUPAD beneficiaries in Cuyo, Palawan amounting to Php1,180,800.00. The beneficiaries received their wages of Php4,800.00 each based on the prevailing minimum rate of P320.00 in the region for rendering 4 hours of service a day for 15 days.

The informal sector workers of the island were engaged in emergency work under DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD). The program was implemented in three (3) batches: first batch of 97 beneficiaries were paid a total amount of Php465,600.00 on January 2021; second batch of 100 beneficiaries were paid on February 2021 amounting to Php480,000.00; and the last batch of 49 beneficiaries were paid on 16 March 2021 amounting to Php235,200.00.

DOLE Palawan Field Office Chief Luis B. Evangelista, representing RD Joffrey M. Suyao, travelled for almost 270 kilometers via an 18-hour ferry ride from the capital Puerto Princesa City to the municipality of Cuyo to personally facilitate the pay-out of wages with the assistance of PESO Manager Aristobal Booc, representing Municipal Mayor Mark L. Delos Reyes. The DOLE team also monitored the implementation of Livelihood Projects in the municipalities of Cuyo and Magsaysay which comprise the island.

The informal sector workers lauded the Department for the prompt assistance especially in these trying times, considering that the Municipality of Cuyo is isolated from the main island of Palawan.

TUPAD program under Bayanihan 2 provides temporary wage employment to the workers in the informal sector who were displaced or whose earnings were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
