LIGAYA, SABLAYAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA thru the Occidental Mindoro Field Office awarded livelihood grant amounting to Php1,000,000.00 to the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Ligaya as the Accredited Co-Partner for Ligaya Homeworkers Association (LMA) for their hollow blocks making project benefiting 188 members.

Concrete hollow blocks production plays a vital role in the construction industry as it serves as one of the basic foundations for building a structure such as homes, schools, hospitals, bridges, pavements, and more.

The nature of business may be rigid and stiff but its strength shows the hope and dreams of LMA, thus they are very thankful for the department for granting such project.

“Maraming salamat po sa DOLE para sa malaking tulong na ito sa aming samahan at sa barangay. Ang pagkakaroon ng pagawaan ng hollow blocks sa aming lugar ay hindi lamang makakapagbigay trabaho sa aming mga miyembro, bagkus matutugunan nito ang pangangailangan ng aming mga kustomer para sa mas malapit na bilihan na may mura at dekalidad na produkto.” (We are grateful to DOLE for this assistance, the hollow blocks making project in our barangay will not only provide employment to our members but will also provide adjacent localities to a nearer shop where they can purchase our quality and less expensive product), said Prescy H. Fernandez, president of the association.

Also, BLGU Ligaya through Brgy. Captain Ruel S. Dawates expressed their earnest gratitude to DOLE for bringing employment opportunities to their constituents as he said, “Maraming salamat po sa DOLE sa malaking tulong na ito sa aming kabarangay. Dahil po dito ay positibo kami na magkakaroon ng maayos na pangkabuhayan ang samahan at iba pang mga residente dito, Kami po sa barangay ay magiging kaagapay ninyo upang matulungan ang asosayon na mapalago at mapagyaman ang pangkabuhayang tulong na ito.” (We are thankful to DOLE for this support to our constituents. We are positive that the association and the other residents of this barangay will benefit from this assistance. We (the Barangay Local Government Unit) shall be your partner in monitoring and assisting the association to sustain this livelihood undertaking.

In response, Occidental Mindoro Provincial Director Bernardo B. Toriano representing DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao said, “DOLE shall always be committed in its mandate to assist our vulnerable workers since we are starting to recover from the pandemic. Solidarity is what we need right now as we transition to economic healing. We must recognize this opportunity to build back better and seek hope as the start of opportunity.”

The awarded project is under DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program which seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, and promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises.
