CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO – On 19 April 2021, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA through the Oriental Mindoro Field Office awarded eleven (11) individual livelihood projects to beneficiaries from Calapan City amounting to Php274,000.00.

Among the approved individual livelihood projects are Karinderya (Negokart), Sari-Sari Store, Rice Retailing, Repair Shop / Services and Fish Catching and Selling which benefitted workers in the marginal and vulnerable sectors of the community especially the displaced workers.

Gloria C. Gadon, one of the beneficiaries of the Kabuhayan projects expressed her gratitude as she received her own Fish Catching/Fish Selling Business. “Kami po ay nagpapasalamat sa DOLE sa aming natanggap na Kabuhayan at amin po itong papalaguin at pahalagahan upang sa ganun magakaroon kami ng dagdag na pagkakakitaan lalo na po ngayon (na may pandemya)” (We are very thankful that DOLE provided this Kabuhayan project. Rest assured that I will nurture it to have additional income especially during this pandemic).

Representing Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, DOLE Oriental Mindoro Chief Roderick Tamacay said, “The livelihood you received today represents the rainbow in the popular saying there is always a rainbow after the rain.  The rain represents this pandemic.  You can only find the pot of gold at its (rainbow) end by taking good care of these grants so that these would become a sustainable source of income.  In that sense, you can uplift your family’s economic condition”.

Calapan PESO Manager Dr. Eder Apolinar M. Redublo was also thankful to the livelihood assistance of DOLE MIMAROPA and advised the beneficiaries to take care the livelihood project as this would provide them decent means of earning to alleviate poverty.

The individual livelihood projects were implemented through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) or Kabuhayan program wherein the qualified beneficiaries can avail of individual starter kit or Negokart up to a maximum financial assistance of P30,000.00 depending on the proposed project.
