DOLE MIMAROPA officers trained on Conciliation - Mediation

 

CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO – 41 Single Entry Assistance Desk Officers (SEADOs) successfully completed the two-day advanced training on conciliation and mediation hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment – MIMAROPA Regional Office on May 3-4, 2021.

 

DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao stressed the importance of capable frontline officers involved in conciliation and mediation to uphold workers’ rights and maintain industrial peace. “During this time of uncertainty and challenges brought about by the pandemic, we take this opportunity to enhance our conciliation and mediation skills by acquiring new techniques, learn and maximize the use of technology and online platforms, and share with each other certain on-the-ground experiences and best practices on dispute settlement,” Suyao said.

 

The online advanced training was conducted by National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), an agency attached to DOLE tasked to oversee the implementation of the Single-Entry Approach (SEnA) program, or the administrative approach implemented DOLE pursuant to Department Order 151, series of 2016.  SEnA aims to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedure of all labor issues or conflicts to prevent them from ripening into full-blown disputes or actual labor cases.

 

In her opening message, NCMB Executive Director Maria Teresita D. Lacsamana-Cancio.  emphasized the important role of conciliation and mediation in the exercise of the SEADOs’ duty to find agreed solutions to common problems in the workplace. “This training is to provide enhanced techniques and guidance on how to improve the role of conciliation and mediation officers in the time of pandemic,” Cancio added.

 

The technical training team led by NCMB Deputy Executive Director Teresita E. Audia ensured that the SEADOs fully understand and imbibe the qualities and characteristics of a neutral third party working to help employers and employees find voluntary and acceptable solutions to their disputes through the SEnA process. 

 

In addition, Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board IVB Director Francis A. Gonzalo Jr. encouraged the SEADOs to be agile, dynamic and continually develop new techniques to effectively render immediate assistance to employees’ concerns and guidance to employers in implementing corrective measures towards labor compliance.
