81 Hired on the Spot, 10 minimum wage earners vaccinated on Labor day

 

CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO – 81 new entrants to the labor force were successfully hired on the spot during the Virtual Career Fair conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA Region on May 1, 2021.

 

The Labor Day job fair was organized in partnership with employment website JobStreet.com and the Public Employment Service Offices in the region as highlight of the expanded Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) activities of DOLE, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

 

Event partner JobStreet reported a total of 3,513 applicants registered to search for jobs; and 2945 of which qualified for the available job vacancies, such as production operators, customer representatives, field collectors, credit investigators, loan processors, collection specialists. Field coordinators, drivers, dock workers, and account officers. The one-day job fair hired 81 applicants on the spot, while 167 job seekers were classified as Near Hires.

 

Near Hires are applicants who qualified to the position being applied for, but are still to be subjected to further interview and evaluation or required to submit additional pre-employment documents.  Other applicants who failed to secure interview slots due to limited time may still continue to engage with the participating employers even after the event through the job matching service of JobStreet.

 

As part of the 2021 Labor Day celebration with the theme “Mayo Uno sa bagong panahon – Manggagawa at Mamamayan, Babangon, Susulong!”, DOLE MIMAROPA led the ceremonial vaccination to minimum wage earners belonging to the A4 priority group of the COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Plan of the government. This category includes workers in the Accommodation and Food Service Activities, Transportation including Logistics Services and Gas Stations, Manufacturing, Food Retail Trade, Public Construction and other essential services.

 

The vaccination roll-out initiative for the selected A4 priority workers was implemented in compliance to the Memorandum issued by the National Task Force Against COVID-19, pursuant to the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).  The symbolic vaccination to ten (10) selected workers in the region was conducted in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Oriental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital (OMPH).
