DOLE IMPLEMENTS GIP IN THE PROVINCE OF ROMBLON, BENEFITS 765 INTERNS

ROMBLON PROVINCE - The Department of Labor and Employment thru its Romblon Field Office, led by PD Carlo B. Villaflores, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Offices and other government agencies in the province of Romblon implemented the Government Internship Program (GIP) benefitting 765 interns.

The interns’ engagement started on June 15, 2021 and will end on December 15, 2021. GIP beneficiaries were deployed in the different LGUs and other partner agencies throughout the province of Romblon. Php320.00 pesos per day will be received for a total monthly stipend of Php7,040.00.

The program aims to provide young interns and fresh graduates the opportunity to experience working in the government agencies and to showcase their skills and abilities in the field of public service. Interns will be involved in the profiling of child laborers, encoding of job seekers, assisting in DOLE programs and other assigned tasks of the partner agencies like public schools, DTI and TESDA.

The beneficiaries were thankful for the opportunity given. Looking for a job during this pandemic is tough and earning to help their families is considered a blessing for them.

During the orientations done in the different municipalities, PD Villaflores encouraged the interns to value the opportunity that the government is giving them. He added that they should work smart, use their abilities and skills well to become permanent employees in their assigned offices or other chosen fields, and most of all value their hard-earned stipends by spending them well. He also added that they must strictly follow safety and health protocols while performing their duties and responsibilities.

The Government Internship Program or GIP is a component of KABATAAN 2000 under Executive Order (EO) no.139 series of 1993, and DOLE Administrative Order NO. 260-15, which aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve general public in government agencies/entities projects and programs at the national and local level.
