INDIGENOUS TRIBE IN SABLAYAN, GRATEFUL FOR DOLE TUPAD; THE FIRST IN THEIR COMMUNITY

SABLAYAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – On 13 January 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA thru its Occidental Mindoro Field Office facilitated the cash payout of TUPAD wages of 50 indigenous beneficiaries amounting to P3,200.00 each which was held at the community’s hall or “ipunan” of barangay Pag-asa, Sablayan.

DOLE OcciMin Supervising LEO Mr. Philip Alano highlighted that the TUPAD program is a safety net program that provides temporary wage employment to the workers in the informal sector particularly the indigenous people and self-employed workers who were displaced or whose earnings were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic to recover from their losses brought by the pandemic.

According to the indigenous community, DOLE is one of the very first national government agencies who had reached them out and provided a cash assistance that’s why they were so grateful that despite being on the border of the two provinces of Mindoro, they felt the government’s assistance and care for them.

The TUPAD beneficiaries performed social community projects and agro-forestry community projects, such as tree planting, seedling preparation, and reforestation for a period of ten (10) days.

The sitio is one of the priority areas of the PTF-ELCAC under the Whole-of-Nation Approach reaching the remote communities of the region, with the aim of finally ending the insurgency in the province.
