DOLE OrMin conducts Labor Education Webinar on Labor Standards

ORIENTAL MINDORO – On January 27, 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment thru its Oriental Mindoro Field Office (DOLE OrMin) held a one-day labor education webinar via Zoom to sixty-one (61) participants representatives of employers and workers of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Oriental Mindoro and nearby provinces.

Before the kick-off of labor inspection for 2022, it is important that both employers and workers be informed of their rights and responsibilities towards establishing a harmonious relationship and to achieve industrial peace in the workplace. Oftentimes, it is the lack of awareness on labor laws that is making the labor compliance of establishments low which eventually results to labor cases.

The topics discussed were “Minimum wage, hours of work, maternity and paternity benefits, VAWC Leaves, latest DOLE issuances among others” by Mr. Sales – FNLI/LEO III and “Provisions in the Occupational Safety and Health Standards including basic safety awareness” by Mr. Magcalayo – Senior LEO

In her message, DOLE MIMAROPA RD Naomi Lyn C. Abellana thanked the participants for allotting their time for this activity. She emphasized that DOLE is not here to focus in looking for violations but rather as a partner in development who guides and assist the establishments in complying with labor laws. “DOLE always aspires to bring its programs and projects to its customers, even at this pandemic we are not put on hold, we make ways and means to bring our programs close to you”, RD Abellana added.

The labor education webinar is a component of Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) of DOLE which aims to increase awareness on workers and employers’ rights and responsibilities, work ethics, values and skills to contribute in fostering a more cooperative labor-management relations and the attainment of decent and productive work environment.
