DOLE ORMIN CONDUCTS LABOR EDUCATION TO GRADUATING STUDENTS OF MINSU

ORIENTAL MINDORO – On 09 March 2022, DOLE MIMAROPA thru its Oriental Mindoro Field Office (DOLE OrMin) successfully conducted a virtual Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) to one-thousand (1,000) students of the three (3) campuses of Mindoro State University (MinSU Calapan City, Victoria and Bongabong).

The activity aims to educate and guide “would-be workers” on their rights and responsibilities as they enter in the world of employment who will soon become part of the labor force. Likewise, the program helps students to be familiar with the Department’s services and get to know on in-demand local jobs opportunity based on the recent labor market survey.

DOLE OrMin Field Office Head Roderick F. Tamacay gave the welcome remarks to the participants. “LEGS is a regular program of DOLE that provides information for graduating students to gain insights on labor laws especially on workers’ rights and management entitlements. You (students) are lucky because LEGS will be empowered with knowledge and the job opportunities in the current labor market.”, He said.

During the morning session, Mr. Edralin B. Magcalayo – Senior LEO, discussed the topics on labor standards and labor relations such as employment arrangements, minimum wage, work hours, and the monetary/non-monetary benefits of workers including social benefits.

In the afternoon session, Ms Katleen I. Perez – LEO III, discussed the programs and service of DOLE. She also presented the in-demand jobs based on the 2021 Labor Market Report.

Dr. Madonna P. Melchor, the Student Affairs and Services Coordinator of MINSU Calapan Campus thanked DOLE Oriental Mindoro Field Office for conducting the virtual seminar. “It is a big help for the students to be prepared in the world of work considering the status of the economy from the last two years.”, she said.

The LEGS as component of DOLE Labor and Employment Education Service (LEES) educates students on the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers, work ethics, values and other labor-related information that will guide and help them become responsible partners in establishing harmonious labor-management relations.
